A new hairline for $4,500, hotel included
Rural Illinois.
That’s where Jared Gravatt spent years watching his hairline drift backward while he tried one growth treatment after another.
Nothing stuck.
Then a friend flew to Istanbul for a transplant and came home thrilled with the result.
So at 34, Jared booked the same clinic.
“It was about a fourth of the cost over there,” he told People.
The clinic is Now Hair Time, out in the Pendik district on the Asian side of the city.
Technically it’s a clinic, not a JCI-accredited hospital. But it holds a Turkish Ministry of Health license to treat foreign patients, and its lead surgeon is a board-certified dermatologist.
A driver met him at the airport and checked him into a five-star hotel, both part of the deal.
The surgery took more than seven hours.
Jared drifted in twilight sedation while the team harvested donor follicles and planted them across the top of his head: 4,200 grafts in all.
Then came the rules. Drink water, keep your hands off your scalp and skip anything that gets the blood pumping (yes, that too).
For about a week he slept sitting up at 45 degrees on a neck pillow, which was rough on a face-down sleeper.
He’d planned to explore Istanbul. Instead he spent most of the trip in his room, guarding his new hairline.
Now, the money.
The package cost $4,500 and covered the surgery, the hotel, airport transfers and a translator at his side the whole time.
Hair transplants are cosmetic, so insurance never pays a cent.
Turkish Airlines flies nonstop from Chicago, with round-trip fares on KAYAK lately starting near $700. Add that and the whole trip lands around $5,200.
Back home, clinics charge by the graft, and Medihair’s 2025 cost study puts the US average at $5.44 apiece. For 4,200 grafts, that’s about $22,800… before a single hotel night.
And here’s how a standard 2,500-graft job prices out in the same study…
Hair transplant (2,500 grafts), cost comparison
🇺🇸 United States$13,610

🇵🇱 Poland$6,850

🇭🇺 Hungary$3,650

🇮🇳 India$3,350

🇹🇷 Turkey$2,676

“It was about a fourth of the cost over there.”
Jared Gravatt, rural Illinois
In other words, Jared paid less than a quarter of the US price with a five-star hotel thrown in.
The same study puts Turkey’s average at $1.07 a graft. Multiply by 4,200 and you get $4,494.
Interesting…
So Jared didn’t stumble onto a secret deal. He paid the going rate.
Spread over a year, that’s about $433 a month, less than many car payments.
Is there a catch?
Sometimes. In the latest International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery census, 59% of members reported black-market clinics in their cities, where technicians do a surgeon’s job. So ask who actually holds the tools.
And the bill wasn’t quite done: the clinic advised four to six months of PRP injections, plus finasteride and minoxidil.
When People caught up with him, the new grafts had shed, which is normal, and he was posting the regrowth on Instagram.
Will your result match his? Nobody can promise that.
But at $5,200, the bet is smaller.

Rosental Dental, Budapest
All-on-6 dental implants · September 2025 · bookimed.com
★★★★★
“I landed in Budapest on a Sunday, collected my key from a lockbox and slept well in a very good room right at the clinic.
Monday was the big one: seven teeth out and twelve implants in. They walked me through every step beforehand, and the pain control was excellent. A few hours later it was over, and I was back in my room with painkillers and an ice pack.
There was some bleeding and soreness, which you’d expect, but more tablets and a cold gel pack sorted it out. The bathroom was good. My one gripe, and I never asked about it, was that the TV only had German channels.
Support was clear, and the man running it spoke English better than I do. Bookimed made the booking easy and found me a good price.
On my second visit I stayed on site again, and the dental staff were superb. Still only German TV, mind you.”

Turkey crosses $3 billion
Official USHAŞ figures show 1.398 million people traveled to Turkey for care in 2025, spending about $3.02 billion. This year looks busier still: 563,327 health travelers arrived in the second quarter alone, worth roughly $1.58 billion. The useful part for you is the government’s HealthTürkiye platform. Send one request and up to five licensed hospitals can return treatment plans and quotes, with replies due within 72 hours (weekends and holidays excluded). That’s comparison shopping straight from the source. Via Travel And Tour World, October 6.

Turkey sets an accreditation deadline
Under a 2025 regulation, Turkish hospitals, medical centers and labs that serve international patients must earn TÜSKA accreditation, the national quality seal, by the end of 2026. Use that as a filter if you’re booking for next year. Before you pay any deposit, ask for two things in writing: the clinic’s Ministry of Health authorization number for health tourism (Now Hair Time posts ST-3416 on its homepage, for example) and its accreditation status. For hair work, also look your surgeon up in the ISHRS member directory. A clinic that ducks those questions has answered them.

Penang’s busy half-year
Malaysia is in the final quarter of its first national Year of Medical Tourism, and the numbers are holding up. The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council counted about 1.84 million healthcare travelers in 2025, worth around RM3.34 billion. Penang alone logged roughly 285,400 medical tourists in the first half of 2026. More than 80 MHTC partner hospitals now cover cardiology, cancer care, orthopedics, fertility and dentistry, and the wider Visit Malaysia campaign has been stretched into 2027. The council wants RM12 billion a year from healthcare travel by 2030. This is one to watch. Via Travel And Tour World, October 6.

A full arch in Budapest for $6,379
Bookimed’s October 2026 pricing puts the average single implant in Budapest at $1,500, with quotes starting at $450. The bigger gap shows up on full arches. Smile Terminal Dental Care lists an All-on-4 package at $6,379, covering four Alpha-Bio implants, CT planning, all transfers, and both the temporary and final bridges. Expect two trips about four months apart while the implants fuse to the bone. DentaVacation pegs All-on-4 in the US at around $25,000. Even after two round-trip flights, it’s not even close.
