| But the cap is the whole story. Barry reckons most dental plans stop around a thousand dollars a year, which in American pricing buys one crown and not much else. After that you are paying cash whether you planned to or not. |

| The 2026 numbers still read like a typo. Bookimed, which builds its figures from real invoices, verified a single implant in Los Algodones at $776 at the floor and $942 on average back in March. Sani Dental Group, an ADA member clinic open since 1985, lists titanium implants from $750 and porcelain crowns at $195. A full upper arch on four implants starts around $8,100. |
| But quality is the question everybody asks next. Sani runs 41 chairs and more than 40 dentists, several of them trained at Harvard or Loma Linda, with its own lab and CT scanner on site, a two year warranty on implants and five years on crowns. It sees about 10,000 patients a year. |

| A New Yorker writer went down last summer and called the place “part Lourdes and part Costco.” He asked two dentists the same question: straighten my teeth. Sani came back with 28 crowns and one implant for $14,000. A Beverly Hills dentist whose patients include the Kardashians came back with the identical plan for $119,000. |

| And the travel barely counts. You park on the American side for ten to forty dollars a day, walk through passport control, and the first clinic sits about ten steps past the sign. Gas from Los Angeles runs $60 to $145 round trip. No flight, no hotel and no two weeks off work. |
| Six thousand dollars on a clinic payment plan is about $250 a month for two years. Thirty-five thousand was never going to be a payment plan… it was a decision to keep bad teeth. |

| Emirates ties its network to medical travel |
| Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding with the Medical Tourism Association at Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, making it the preferred airline for international medical and wellness travellers, aimed at demand out of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Airlines tend to move before prices do, and when a carrier starts bundling treatment into routes, fare competition usually follows. Watch it from a distance, though. Dubai is not a cheap place to have surgery, and its health authority has not published a patient count since 2023, when it recorded 691,478 health tourists. |

| The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council counted roughly 1.84 million healthcare travellers in 2025 and about RM 3.34 billion in revenue, beating the government’s own RM 3 billion target. The country has now declared 2026 its Year of Medical Tourism. One caution before you book anything. Malaysia counts more generously than any other destination: expatriates, migrant workers and business travellers who happen to see a doctor all land inside that 1.84 million. Revenue works out near RM 1,815 per traveller, about $430, which tells you most of the count is a clinic visit, not an operating theatre. |

| Korea saw 173,000 American patients last year |
| South Korea registered 2,011,822 foreign patients in 2025, a jump of 71.9%, per the health ministry and KHIDI. American arrivals rose 70.4% to about 173,000. The mix is the interesting part: dermatology took 62.9% of those patients and plastic surgery 11.2%, with 87.7% treated at clinic level rather than in hospitals. Seoul absorbed 87.2% of the total. In other words, this is mostly skin, lasers and short visits rather than surgery, and the price gap on a laser course is nothing like the gap on a knee. Busan grew 151.5%. |

| Medical Tourism Watch refreshed its country-by-country record on 14 September, and the corrections are worth more than the data. Singapore’s famous 646,000 turns out to be a 2008 figure, and the tourism board itself said only 370,000 of those people were treated. South Africa gets listed at 500,000 medical tourists a year; its own border statistics show roughly 3,000 declared medical arrivals. Eight research houses value the 2026 global market anywhere from $34 billion to $107 billion. None of that changes what a crown costs. It does mean you verify the clinic, never the brochure. |
